Why Running Out of Beef Might Not Be a Bad Thing
One of the latest in the fight against COVID-19 (at least here in Canada) is that there is some risk that the meat suppliers may be affected due to COVID-19 breakouts in processing plants. JBS foods in Alberta has reported 67 cases in their plant; then United Poultry in Vancouver was shut down when 28 workers were reported as COVID-19 positive.
I am not sophisticated enough to discuss the financial implications to all of this and I sympathize with any that have been laid off due to this unprecedented global phenomenon. My article is directed at the end-user of meat products.
So here we go, an article on why you shouldn’t freak out if your beef or chicken supply runs dry for the next little while. Now before you sharpen your pitchforks and tie up your ropes to hang me a bleeding heart vegan hippie; hear me out. I grew up ocean fishing for halibut and salmon or dropping crab traps catching the delicious Dungeness crab. I have eaten every type of meat my whole life and I don’t intend to change that anytime soon. Also, I’ve lately been getting into duck hunting which is a whole new level of fun.
That said, you don’t need meat. At all. If your supply of ground beef and steak runs out for the next little while; you don’t need it. I’m even going to go as far as to say you are probably healthier without it.
